Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli and Lionel Richie confirm the show at the coronation of Charles III

The eclectic show will also feature the band Take That and classical composer Alexis Ffrench.

Katy Perry, Lionel Richie AND Andrea Bocelli Topping the list of artists to perform at Charles III’s coronation concert in London in May, the BBC announced, revealing the names of the main stars, none of them British.

The eclectic show will also feature the band take that and composer of classical music Alexis French to an expected crowd of 20,000 at Windsor Castle, about 40km west of London, the day after her May 6 coronation.

“The show will celebrate a new chapter in the nation’s history, with themes of love, respect and optimism, celebrating the four nations, their communities and the Commonwealth,” said the BBC, which will broadcast the event.

There will also be a choir made up of members of different communities, including first responders, taxi drivers and reggae bands, as well as a virtual choir made up of representatives from the Commonwealth, an alliance of nations made up mostly of former British colonies.

The announcement of the program confirms press reports that major British music stars such as Elton John, Adele, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles did not want to attend.

Last year, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the reign of Elizabeth II, bands such as Queen with Adam Lambert and Duran Duran, as well as artists such as Alicia Keys and Rod Stewart have performed at Buckingham Palace. Elton John has recorded a tribute to the Queen.

The heart of Charles III, the first such event since that of Elizabeth in 1953, does not seem to fascinate the British.

More concerned about the rise in inflation which has caused a serious social crisis, the country recently experienced the Jubilee of Elizabeth II, in June last year, and her funeral, in September.

Nearly two-thirds of Britons (64%) and 75% of young people are not interested in the coronation, but 46% of those polled said they would watch the broadcast or some of the celebrations, according to a YouGov poll released on Friday.

The coronation proper on May 6thit will take place at Westminster Abbey in front of 2,000 guests and is expected to last an hour, in a modest format compared to the ceremony for Elizabeth II (8,000 guests and three hours long).

Several monarchs and foreign leaders will attend, but US President Joe Biden will be represented by his wife, Jill. Prince Harry, the youngest son of Charles III, embroiled in public conflicts with the royal family, will participate without his wife, Meghan Markle.
