The staggering amount of surgeries Paul Stanley has undergone

Kiss vocalist and guitarist is grateful to advances in modern medicine, but recognizes that “everything has a limit”

Scientific advances have made people live longer. Not only that: it has allowed you to perform activities that require a lot of physical activity until an older age. From athletes to artists, everyone is able to perform their functions for longer nowadays.

let me say Paul Stanley. Now 71 years old, the vocalist and guitarist of kiss he has already declared in interviews that he is a great “lover of science and modern medicine”, since he has performed several surgeries over the years to continue on stage.

In a 2021 interview with SiriusXM (via Ultimate Guitar), for example, the artist listed a series of procedures already performed in recent times. Operations took place on his two rotator cuffs, the tendon of one of his biceps, the cartilage of both knees and his hip (with insertion of a prosthesis), among other regions of his body.

After that, of course, other interventions needed to be made. The most recent one happened on one of his feet. In an interview with Look, Stanley he cited the exact number of times he had to “go under the knife” and reflected on the matter.

“I’ve had eight surgeries. That’s more surgeries than the average person would do in five lifetimes. I do things that athletes stopped doing a long time ago at my age.”

Everything has a limit

In conversation with the Brazilian magazine, Paul Stanley reinforced his gratitude for contemporary medicine. However, he made it clear that “everything has a limit”.

“I’m glad there are doctors, procedures and therapies to rejuvenate and repair you. But there is a limit. What I do onstage most people half my age could not do.”

This would be the main reason behind the retirement of the kiss. The band has stated that it will stop touring after the conclusion of the current farewell tour, end of the road. Asked in the same interview if the end “now is for real”, since the group went back to the same decision taken in the early 2000s, paul he responded:

“No one is 100% sure of anything. If you’re alive, you can change your mind. That said, I don’t see how we could go on. What we do is like a marathon, and there are no athletes our age. We carried about 20 kilos of costumes for over two hours. It takes a toll. That’s why I don’t think a new tour is possible in the future. It’s one thing for a band to break up because its members fought, it’s another thing to break up because we’ve reached our limit. We love each other.”
