The project, which arrives three years after the album high road (2020), will feature the production of Rick Rubinknown for work with Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, AC DC, Joan Jett and more. Furthermore, the mother of kesha, Pebe Sebert and the singer’s eight-year-old niece, Luna, are also among the contributors.
To the Rolling Stone USA,kesha gave details about the meanings of each track and pointed out the importance of the new album. Second kesha, gag order sounds like a real turning point in their discography compared to their predecessors rainbow (2017) and high road (2020), which feature more introspective music.
I feel like I’m giving birth to the most intimate thing I’ve ever created. I really dove into some of my ugliest emotions and sides of myself that are less fun. It’s scary to be vulnerable. […] this is all so stressful – but also so healing.
About the singles, the singer explains that “EAT THE ACID” it’s not about using acid, but about advice from his mother who asked for the opposite: “[ela dizia] whatever you do, but don’t use acid, because when you do, you see things that will never be ‘unseen’.” Already “FINE LINE” it comes from a slightly more personal place. “[É sobre] all the doctors and lawyers who took their tongues out of my mouth.”
It should be noted that the literal translation of the term “gag order” refers to a type of legal order that prohibits individuals from making public comments or sharing information about an ongoing court case. kesha continues in legal battle against Dr. luke since 2014, when the producer filed a defamation lawsuit against her for alleging that he drugged and raped her in 2005.
