Friends killed the music industry, says Noel Gallagher

According to Noel Gallagher, people ‘sit around in their sweaters drinking overpriced coffee and talking nonsense’

Former member of Oasis, Noel Gallagher controversial opinion: according to the singer, Friends and coffee shop culture ended the music industry.

During an interview with Daily Star (via Yahoo!), Gallagher explained how this happened because these two factors drive people to talk nonsense and spend money on overpriced food and drinks – and all that money could be used to support artists instead.

“It’s sitting around in a sweater drinking expensive coffee and talking nonsense,” he said. “Since the dawn of the coffee shop, the culture has disappeared. People are horrified that they have to pay for music!” But $20 for two coffees, oh, absolutely. I don’t have the brain capacity to process that.”

“I feel like the resistance to paying for music came after people got used to it,” he continued. Noel Gallagher. “Perhaps it’s because they got used to spending too much on commodities that look like culture – like coffee – and so they shifted their financial priorities.” Then the singer blamed Friends by the popularity of coffee shops:

I blame Friends for the rise of the coffee shop. Sitting around in their sweaters drinking overpriced coffee and talking nonsense.
