Successor to Songs Of Surrender (2023) set to be ‘a loud, uncompromising, mindless guitar album’
few weeks after U2 to throw Songs Of Surrender (2023), with more than 40 of the greatest songs of the career that make “21st century reimagining,” the iconic band fronted by bono already talking about the next job. According to the guitarist David Howell Evansbetter known as The Edgethe group already has “a lot of great material in the works.”
It is worth remembering how U2 already revealed that plans to release the album Songs Of Ascentbut bono revealed how, before, he wants to release “a loud, uncompromising, mindless guitar album.” During an interview with Guitar player, The Edge talked about the future of the band.
“I know the answer to that. [risos] I’ve been working a lot on new guitar music and I’m really excited about it,” said the musician. “It’s in that prototype stage where… who knows? But the answer to the question is ‘yes.'”
I’m feeling really excited about the guitar for the first time in a while. Maybe it’s something to do with the pandemic, having time to not do too much.
“We were in need of a break. We finished our last show in India in December 2019. We came back home and almost immediately the world was turned upside down,” continued The Edge. “That time would have been spent working on ideas and new songs at an early stage.”
And we are [com esse tempo]. We have a lot of great material in the works.
Furthermore, bono also commented on the next steps of the U2 and reflected on the last few years of the band’s career. “We all make mistakes. The prog rock bug kicked in and we needed a vaccine,” he said. “The discipline of our compositions, which made the U2 – first-rate melody, clear thoughts – was gone.”
“With the band, I thought, that’s not what we do, and we can only do this experimental stuff if we have the songwriting skills,” he added. “So we went to songwriting school, came back, and we’re fine! Over the course of those two albums,’Songs Of Innocence It is Experience‘, our songwriting returned. Now we need to put the rock ‘n’ roll firepower back.”
I don’t know who’s going to do our f***ing rock ‘n’ roll album. you almost want one AC DCyou want Mutt Lange. The aproach. The discipline. The discipline of composition. That’s what we want.
