The singer’s admirers and family faced the persistent rain that fell in Sao Paulo this Wednesday 10, to say goodbye to the artist definitively
Singer Rita Lee’s body will be cremated in a private ceremony, reserved for family and close friends, as the singer wanted. The place and time of the cremation were not disclosed.
The national rock queen died on Monday 8 at the age of 75. Rita Lee had been treating lung cancer since 2021. The vigil was held this Wednesday 10 at the Planetarium at Ibirapuera Parkin Sao Paulo.
The singer’s fans, family and celebrities braved the persistent rain that fell in the capital São Paulo throughout the day, to say goodbye to the artist once and for all.
Those in attendance stressed that Rita Lee will be immortalized, not only for her music, but for all that she has represented for women and society. In honor of the singer, fans insisted on wearing T-shirts with her face printed on them and glasses, an accessory that has become one of Rita Lee’s symbols.
Fans also brought the artist’s records and autobiography with them. Rita Lee hits, like Perfume launcher, Black sheep AND Now I just miss you they were sung by those in line.
Inside the Planetarium
From inside the planetarium, their children João Lee and Beto Lee, their husband Roberto Carvalho and their sister Virgínia Lee followed the passage of fans in silence and with great emotion. To the press, João declared his passion for his mother.
“A street, a square, an avenue would still be little, given the amount of joy it has brought to the people. We have to change the name of this country”, he highlighted.
Many celebrities were also present at the singer’s farewell, including Pedro Bial, Daniella Cicarelli, Serginho Groisman, Astrid Fontenelle, Otávio Mesquita, Ronnie Von and Xuxa.
The vigil was also attended by the singers Negra Li, Maria Rita, Baby do Brasil and Paula Lima; guitarist Lucinha Turnbull; former chacrete Rita Cadillac and state deputy Eduardo Suplicy. Singer Wanessa Camargo also attended her wake accompanied by her boyfriend, actor Dado Dolabella.
Among the tributes received from colleagues, Bial highlighted how the singer was revolutionary.
“Rita is not finished. Indeed, she still has a lot of life ahead of her, no longer present in the body, but the spirit leaves. And that spirit, in a time of very extreme convictions, very assertive in its sweetness, without trying to win anyone , just trying to impose herself, Rita dominated. With that little way of hers the columns of hypocrisy cracked and today they are in ruins. Rita is light”.
