After announcing his willingness to abandon his stage name, Abel Tesfaye changed his name on social media
The Weeknd confirmed intentions of abandoning his artistic name last Monday, the 15th. The musician changed his name on social networks, using Abel Tesfaye in place of the alter ego with which he consecrated himself.
“I’m going down a cathartic path now… I’m getting to a place where I feel ready to close the chapter The Weeknd,” he said in an interview with W Magazine. “The record I’m working on right now is probably my last ‘hurray!’ as The Weeknd. It’s something I have to do. I’ve said all I could say as The Weeknd.”
tesfaye he did not rule out using the stage name again in the future: “I will still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
