Miley Cyrus released this Tuesday (5/16) the video for “Jaded”, which is the third single from her studio album, titled “Endless Summer Vacation”, released in March. Despite being about a painful and complicated breakup, the song has a calm tone and showcases the sultry singer in multiple parts.
The singer brought back her brown hair for the first time in a music video since Hannah Montana. Filled with idyllic settings, the clip of her shows her next to white sheets, palm trees, blue skies and swimming pools, singing the surf rock-influenced song as the wind blows through her hair.
She also shows off her fit, tattooed body as she rolls semi-naked on her bed, wearing a gold bathing suit and sunglasses, a black rhinestone-encrusted bra and a sultry black bathing suit, as she softly sings, “We went to the hell, but we never went back / sorry you’re disappointed.”
The artist gave fans just 24 hours to prepare the video for “Jaded”, announcing around noon on Monday that the project would be released at the same time the next day.
But Miley had already shown a snippet of the video a few days before its release. On Saturday (5/13), she shared a trio of photos on Instagram in “Jaded’s” bed, wearing the same clothes. In the caption she even quoted the lyrics of the song: “Now you’re alone and I hate it.”
The clip is directed by Jacob Bixenman, who also signed the videos for “River” and “Flowers”, as well as the “Backyard Sessions” in which Miley presented her songs on Disney+ – at the time, the last song to be shown was ” Jaded “.
Fans have pointed to “Jaded”‘s ties to previous work apparently inspired by the breakdown of her marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth (“The Hunger Games”). “She shot the music video in her new home in Malibu, referencing her song ‘Malibu’ and the California home she and Hemsworth lost in the fires. And it makes fun of Liam’s love song ‘Adore You’ . when she first met Liam) as she sang that they’re older and more mature now,” one fan remarked. Another added: “She looks so relaxed, like she doesn’t care.”
Fans have speculated that their relationship formed the basis for many songs on the singer’s current album, including “Muddy Feet.” However, Miley hasn’t confirmed if she was actually inspired by the split.
