Why is Pink Floyd ‘not rock’? Guy Pratt responds

For bassist Guy Pratt, who played with Pink Floyd on a few occasions, the band does not belong in the world of rock

pink Floyd and rock? at least for Guy Pratt – bassist who played with the band on tours and recording sessions from the 1980s onwards – no! In an interview with the podcast No Treble (via I have more records than friends), the musician explained his point of view.

“When you play in a band like pink Floyd, people think you’re in the rock world, but you’re not. None of these people are. We don’t look like rock and roll, we don’t do rock and roll stuff, so we’re not in the rock world,” she argued.

Pratt he even stated that he felt like a “tourist” in this world, but that the strategy worked, as he received an invitation from David Coverdale to play with the Whitesnake.

The bassist’s speech highlights the diverse influences of pink Floyd, which go beyond rock, going through blues and soul. The distance from other popular artists at the time may also have been one of the factors that contributed to the idea of Pratt.
