Justin Hawkins blasts Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante
justin hawkinsvocalist of the band The Darknessrevealed his reasons for not enjoying the sound of Red Hot Chili Peppers on the podcast How NOT to Write a Song (via NME). The musician’s main “problem” is with the group’s guitarist, John Frusciante.
hawkins even compared it to Mark Knopflerof Dire Straits, whom he described as underrated. “My problem with Red Hot Chili Peppers is that I don’t feel anything when I hear John Frusciante touch. if we can call Mark Knoplfer of an underrated guitarist, I would describe frustrating as an overrated guitarist. I’ve described him that way more than once.”
“Maybe that’s what happens when you become an award-winning painter and start doing naive, childish art. I think that was one of the things he was exploring, which doesn’t stop it from being shit,” he added.
Finally hawkinsdefended that he is not jealous of frustrating and recognized that the Red Hot Chili Peppers is a worldwide audience phenomenon: “They always say, ‘You’re jealous because he sold more records than you.’ Good, Mark Knoplfer he sold a lot more records than I did and I’m not jealous of him. I love your way of playing. This argument makes no sense.
