Obi-Wan director Kenobi explains the differences between the Arbiter and the Sith from Star Wars

Spoiler ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Star Wars back on Disney + with Obi-Wan Kenobiwhich incorporated elements of the prequel trilogy, introduced previously animated enemies into the live action, and it is setting the stage for the original trilogy of iconic characters like Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. However, the main villain on the new show is not Vader, but Moses Ingram’s Reva, who is a referee rather than a Sith. But what separates a Sith from an Inquisitor, when both wield the dark side of the Force, wield red lightsabers, and want to hunt down heroes? Director Deborah Chow and Ingram herself heavy on Gossipify .

The Inquisitors debuted in the present day Star Wars canon as the main villains of the first two seasons of star wars rebelsan anime series set in the last few years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Yes A new hope. They were the villains’ natural choice Obi-Wan Kenobiten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. obi wan unfortunately he wielded a blaster instead of his saber while running away from Reva in the beginning. Actress Moses Ingram talked about Reva’s role as Obi-Wan’s enemy, and what sets a Sith apart from the Inquisitors:

I’d say it’s pretty awful. I’m biased too, but it’s pretty dangerous. I think she is driven by her passion for her, she loves what she does and is ready to get the job done. I think that’s why she is. The difference between Inquisitor and Sith, I had problems myself because I was told that my character is not of the Sith, but of the Inquisitorius, which is a big, big difference. Can I tell you the difference? I wouldn’t dare try it, not on camera.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi showed that Reva’s true “passion” was to capture the legendary Obi-Wan, even to the point of recklessly stabbing the Grand Inquisitor with his lightsaber. His methods almost immediately made Obi-Wan realize that whatever had happened in the ten years since the end of the prequel trilogy in the Star Wars timeline , and it is clear at this point that he will stop at nothing to “get the job done.” This in itself seems no different from something the Sith characters on the show wouldn’t do. Fortunately, director Deborah Chow sorted out the differences:

Well, the Sith, there’s the rule of two, so there’s no open inscription in there. The interesting thing about the Inquisitors is that they are all individuals. They are not a team or a monolithic entity. So they all have a really cool backstory and some of that backstory that they’ve already dug deep and there’s a lot more I think to explore. But to me, they all had different reasons why they transformed and they’re all very powerful, so it’s a collective of individuals, which I think makes the Inquisitors so interesting.

The Rule of Two is the easiest way to take out Reva or any of the others who hunt the Jedi alongside her as the Sith, as this is the era of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. These Inquisitors also have distinct backgrounds and motives from each other, seemingly without the clear power structure of the master / apprentice.

There is, of course, the highest ranking Grand Inquisitor, and star wars rebels in fact, he didn’t even introduce any more Inquisitors until Season 2, but he’s a “collective of individuals” rather than a duo cemented by the rule of two. Standard gets a little more confusing when it comes to the sequel trilogy in the timeline, but for now the separation remains.

And Reva wasted no time in pointing out that you don’t have to be a Sith to pose a major threat to any surviving Jedi in the galaxy ten years after Order 66. Star Wars is filled with some of the most iconic villains in pop culture history, and Moses Ingram impressed with his first few episodes. Unfortunately, Star Wars had to talk about the racist backlash against the actress and her Co-star Ewan McGregor also had a strong message condemning the “horrible” and “racist” messages sent to Ingram.

The six-episode series of Obi-Wan Kenobi (opens in a new tab) the limited series is halfway through right now, but you can continue watching new episodes, including the first inquisitors live, Wednesday at 12:01 am PT with a Disney + subscription . Also find the four seasons of star wars rebels available on the Disney streaming service, if you want to see the entire base that rebels set for the Inquisitors prior to Ewan McGregor’s limited series.
