The song released 13 years ago is said to be about her relationship with John Meyer; new recording is also on the re-recording of the album ‘Speak Now’
Taylor Swiftduring the show The Tour of the Agesat US Bank Stadium, Minnesota, USA, asked fans to be kind and not to share negative or hurtful comments about the song dear John. Released 13 years ago, the track would be an outlet on his relationship with John Mayer – at the time she was 19 and the musician was 32.
Swift returned to perform the surprise song, which is part of the original album recording. Speak Now (2010), which is in the process of being re-recorded and will be released in July – with the signature Taylor’s version.
“I’m 33. I don’t care about anything that happened to me when I was 19, except the songs I wrote,” she commented.
“I’m not releasing this album so you feel the need to offend anyone on the internet that you think the music is directed and written about 14 million years ago.”

Without naming John Mayer at the time, the star said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine that he felt “really humiliated”.
“It made me feel terrible,” Mayer said. “I was really taken aback and she humiliated me at a time when I was already disgraced,” he added.
“Dear John, I see it clearly now that you’re gone. Don’t you think you were too young to mess with me?” Taylor says in a snippet from the song.
Taylor’s version
In May, the singer revealed that she’s been re-recording her albums after she lost the royalties to her first six albums in 2019. His former label, Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records, was sold to record industry executive Scooter Braun. She and Braun had old frictions, culminating in the artist’s inability to buy his recordings and, therefore, had to give up the profits they made after the sale of Big Machine.
In 2018 he had already changed labels, moving to Universal Music, but the copyrights of his albums recorded on the previous record company remained in the hands of Borchetta, and subsequently of Braun.
The next re-recordings are albums fearless (2008) and Red (2012) – and both with signature Taylor’s version.
