Taylor Swift wins honorary title of mayor of California city

Taylor Swift will receive the title of honorary mayor of Santa Clara during The Eras Tour stop in the city

With one of the most profitable tours in history, Taylor Swift has been exceeding expectations with the tour The Eras Tour. What the singer didn’t expect was to win an honorary title from the city of Santa Clara, California, to “celebrate positive local impact to the community”.

The change was disclosed in a note by Mayor Lisa Gillmor, who, in addition to granting the artist the honorary title of Mayor during the days when “The Eras Tour” will pass through the municipality on July 28 and 29 at Levi’s Stadium, the city will also will officially change her name to “Swiftie Clara” (via Mercury News).

Taylor Swift is coming to Santa Clara for the third time and this time we wanted to honor her in a respectful way. We are thrilled to welcome an artist whose devotion to music and empowerment sets such a positive example for so many people of all ages around the world, which is why we are doing this.

This isn’t the first city to adopt the singer’s name or offer her a similar title. Earlier this year, the city of Glendale, Arizona temporarily changed its name to “Swift City”.

The two concerts at Levi’s Stadium are the penultimate stops of The Eras Tour in the United States, which will conclude on August 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA. Then, the singer goes to Latin America, which will feature six performances in Brazil in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in November this year.
