  1. Increasing rivalry with Madonnathe video contains several references to the black and white clip of “vogue,” one of the great hits of queen of pop;
  2. The black and white image also alludes to German expressionist cinema of the 1920s;
  3. European cinema appears once again: Lady Gaga wears a scarf on her head that closely resembles the character Death in The Seventh Seal (1957), classic directed by Igmar Bergman;

  7. At one point in the clip, Lady Gaga appears in a psychedelic version of a green blazer and hair worthy of American politics. A few years later, Hillary Clinton wore similar clothing in the 2016 presidential election;
  8. In addition to Madonna, Gaga references the clip of “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” one of the greatest of the 1980s, in which Tom Petty brings all the vibe of alice inWonderland;
  9. In one of the costumes, the singer wears two black gloves on her chest, which makes reference to the classic controversial cover of the Rolling Stone USA from the 1990’s Janet Jackson;
  10. Finally, Gaga wear a wig Beyonce and shells that evoke The born of Venusfamous painting by Sandro Botticelli.
