Singer Lauryn Hill announced this Thursday, 24, a tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his first and only solo studio album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Released in 1998, the album won ten nominations for Grandmother 1999, making the singer the first woman to be nominated so many times in one night. Lauryn took home five gramophones during the ceremony.
With no confirmed passage to South America, the tour features 17 shows in some of the world’s top arenas, such as the Barclays, Brooklyn and the United Center, Chicago, as well as countries including Australia and New Zealand. Some of the performances will feature Lauryn’s former band, The fugitiveswhich is expected to open in arenas in the United States and Canada.
In a press release, the singer said the record is like a message of love. “The miseducation of Lauryn Hill is and has been a love song for my parents, my family, my people, my musical and cultural ancestors, my teachers, my loves, my Creator,” he begins. love and protest songs – (again love songs) about topics and interests that have inspired and moved me. I was confident that what inspired me would resonate with an audience led to believe that songs like this could only live in the past,” the message continues.
The miseducation of Lauryn Hill incorporates musical elements from hip hop, soul, gospel music and reggae. The record later helped define the style called neo soul. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and sold over 400,000 copies in its first week. The success of the album helped the singer record some singles, such as Doo Wop (That Thing) AND Everything is everything.
