Perrengues of The Town: 2h to enter, ‘queue change’, difficulty eating: read the reports

Estadão spoke to fans who had problems at the festival. In the second part of the event the main points that can be improved were highlighted. The main complaint is the delay in arriving, entering and purchasing food and drinks

Megafestival has become synonymous with perrengue. Great shows are worth listening to, but wear out your lower back and feet from standing and running around each stage, don’t ingest the right amount of water or nutrients, and suffer over time. Or you feel sick from the heat and keep crying pitanga with mud on your feet.

In case of The citya festival that started on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 in São Paulo, the main complaints from fans about the facility were:

  • It takes more than two hours in line to enter, with a lack of staff to guide and supervise
  • The action of the “queue changers” – people who get paid to maintain and give way to people in the queue – obviously in an unauthorized service, not allowed and without any guarantee
  • Full and even slow trains, especially on Saturdays
  • Difficulty buying food and drink, with few street vendors and distant outlets
  • Few places to rest, relax or watch shows seated, as was more possible at Lollapalooza, in the same place

With the debut festival returning on Thursday the 7th, Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th, most fans point to the flaws as suggestions for improvement. Read more below.

Queues, for example, are things that could be improved. “We arrived at 12.30, but we only entered the festival at 14.40,” says financial analyst Layla Costa, 30. Those who performed the service were the participants themselves, who didn’t allow it,” she says.

On Saturday, passing to the side of the queue, men could be heard shouting: ‘Look at the skipper of the queue, pay and pass’, suggesting that there would then be a way to ‘buy’ a seat.

The same problem happened to a group of friends from Santo André who took four hours to enter the festival. “To get here from Santo André it usually takes 1 hour and 10 minutes. Yesterday (Saturday) it took us 4 hours. Today (Sunday) we had to leave two hours earlier and try to get there earlier. It worked, but there were problems of organization”, says Bruna Oliveira, a 21-year-old student.

“The disorganization of the queue was punk. We need to improve the entrance because people stay out for a long time and there are only two entrances, so it becomes very complicated. The shows had already started and people outside”, he retorts. Andrea de Mello, 52 years old.

The trains and services available for arrival and departure from the event they were also a bottleneck, like the Estadao already shown. According to reports on social networks, those who left shortly after the first train to the festival suffered getting on the transport. On the way back it was a real mess. The big problem was the huge queues and lack of signage, both for buses and trains.

“The idea was good, it just needs to get better,” sums up Layla.

The number of people queuing outside explains why it is difficult to buy food, drink and even receive free gifts from the shops. “I think the amount of stuff they offer doesn’t support the audience they bring here,” says analyst Alex Oliveira, 30.

For him, the festival lacked a space where he could relax but also enjoy the show. “It is not possible to sit down and relax, also due to the layout of the stage. LollapaloozaFor example, the boxes are in a lower area so that people can stand up and watch. From where I am, which is close to the stage, I can’t even see the screen,” she says.

Other attendees also complained about the size of the screen, which didn’t allow for a good view of the background audience, even though the sound was very good, loud and easy to hear. But it was something about enjoying the moment with the music itself. The view, both hampered by the structure and the difficulty of seeing the screen, left room for everyone’s imagination.

“I found the bathroom very clean, I had no difficulty going, the queue was very fast”

“Another big problem is the water point. The points are far away, only near the bathroom. And even when you want to buy from street vendors, many don’t have it or don’t have it,” says student Luana Recucci, 22 years. “There’s nobody around just walking around and selling food in the audience.”

It was hard to find food hawkers around during concerts. Beverages such as energy drinks or Heineken draft beer were more common. “There have been quite a few, but it’s important to say that the draft beer purchased through the app, which they felt was supposed to facilitate, was not accepted by these guys, only at the Heineken stand. That is, I would have to leave a good spot on the show to pick it up,” Layla says. The unused amount, she must be told, will be refunded by the brand to consumers.

“Because it’s their first time, there’s a lot to learn and I think they’ll get it right in the next few days,” says optimistic student Gabriel Bianconi, 21. Layla, who attended Rock in Rio, an event of the same creator, Roberto Medina, is categorical in saying: “If the idea is to organize an event the size of Rock in Rio, it takes a lot. I was at the festival in Rio last year. passed and I think there’s a long way to go to get there. But that’s it, coming to a festival means waiting for the perrengue, there’s no way,” he says.

During the weekend, the Estadao questioned the festival organization regarding logistical issues, but received no response. The space remains open.

Contacted by Estadão on Sunday, ViaMobilidade sent the following note:

“São Paulo, September 3, 2023 – Yesterday (29/9), due to an electrical failure, the 9-Esmeralda line operated with 10-minute intervals between Osasco and Autódromo stations and 20-minute intervals between Autódromo and Bruno Covas Mendes Vila Natal. The impacts on the line involved both regular transport and special express and semi-express services to the City. To support the operation, 32 buses of the PAESE system were activated to serve the section between Grajaú and Jurubatuba. The technicians of ViaMobilidade worked to normalize the situation. During the event, passengers were guided by service and safety agents (AAS) and by sound alerts in trains and stations.”
