Bahia’s Pitty opened the rock on Saturday (9/9) at The Town with the only Brazilian rock show on the festival’s main stage. And it was an iconic sight. Celebrating her own journey, the singer brought a bold reinterpretation of her debut album, “Admirável Chip Novo”, complete with the participation of Nova Orquestra. The show served as an extension of the “ACNXX” tour, celebrating two decades of the seminal album.
The artist abandons the usual power trio formation, opting for a symphonic collaboration with the Nova Orquestra. This group, made up of young musicians, adds a new dimension to Pitty’s already consolidated repertoire. The result was an immersive experience that exceeded audience expectations.
National rock icon
The album “Admirável Chip Novo” is not only the first chapter of Pitty’s musical journey, but also a milestone in Brazilian rock. Released during a period of decline for the genre in the country, the album helped revitalize it, opening space for a new generation of artists in the 2000s.
Before his performance, Pitty played the audio of a collect call from producer Rafael Ramos. The audio served as a nostalgic prelude, harking back to the time when album demos were sent through the mail, in a pre-Internet era. And the hits “Teto de Vidro” and “Máscara” soon followed, which immediately got the audience involved, complete with a mosh pit in the circle. “The question is: did I come from Bahia to arrive slowly?”, asked the singer in the recording of the historic phone call, played during the show, alluding to the rush to make “Máscara” rock the first single from the album.
He also gave a special performance in “Equalize”, interacting with the camera, giving the audience the impression of watching a live clip.
The decision to focus on the debut album kept the audience engaged throughout the event. Even 20 years after its release, “Brave New Chip” demonstrated its lasting impact, reflected in the unanimous enthusiasm of those in attendance. While the newer material only served as a complement, the repertoire reinforced Pitty’s continued relevance. With a performance full of nostalgia, but also full of meaning, the singer highlighted Brazilian rock on a day full of American bands.
