The Weeknd: setlist, surprises and what to expect from shows in Brazil

Singer performs in October in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo with the After Hours Til Dawn tour; Here, we’ve rounded up everything we already know about the show.

Less than a month left until the shows The Weeknd in Brazil. The Canadian singer performs in October with sold out tickets on the 7th at Nilton Santos Stadiumin Rio de Janeiro, and on the 10th and 11th in Allianz Parquein Sao Paulo.

The performances are part of the tour After Hours Til Dawnwhich mainly brings together tracks from the albums After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022) – but the singer’s recent shows have a repertoire that goes far beyond the two albums.

The Weeknd’s setlist

According to the website setlist.fmthe most recent presentations of Abel Tesfaye they have listed 34 songs in their repertoire. Of these, six are dedicated to each of the two albums listed above, followed by Starboyfrom 2016, one of the biggest hits of the Canadian’s career. Beauty Behind Madness (2015) and House of Balloons (2011) still appear in the show, with three songs each, and Kiss Land (2013) and My Dear Melancholy (2018) too, with two songs each.

Abel has also played several covers in his performances, such as “Hurricane”, by Kanye West“Crew Love” by Drakeand “Low Life”, by Future.

The track that has opened recent shows is “Take My Breath”, followed by the heavy follow-up to “Sacrifice”, “How Do I Make You Love Me?” and the smashing “Can’t Feel My Face”. “Starboy”, one of abel’s biggest hits, appears in the first half of the show, as the 11th song of the presentation.

The end of the show is opened more or less by the 28th track, with a remix of “Blinding Lights”, followed by “Less Than Zero” and the full version of “Blinding Lights”. The closing comes with the live version of “Moth to a Flame”, recorded by Abel in partnership with Swedish House Mafia.

Surprises

Of course, for shows in Brazil, some surprises are expected – such as the reference to Anita that the singer made at the presentation in Lisbon, last June. In the song, the singer replaced the original mention of Selena Gomez, in the song “Party Monster”, with one for the Brazilian singer.

Stage

In the structure of the tour’s shows, a huge sculpture by Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama was added in the middle of the main catwalk – similar to the art used in the tour’s promotional flyers. Fully chromed, the work references the German science fiction classic, Metropolis (1927).

With movement and lighting features, the sculpture in the shape of a female android is capable of rotating around its own axis and follows the style pattern characteristic of the works of Sorayama, who has previously worked with The Weeknd.

Another visual aesthetic change is the costumes: in the first stage of the tour, the dancers wore red outfits while Abel always performed in black clothes. Now everyone wears white. The pedestal used on stage by the singer, as well as his face mask, also received a makeover, reinforcing the chrome look.
