Thirty Seconds to Mars singer Jared Leto opened up about the path that led him to drugs – and how he stopped using them
Jared Leto revealed details of his early exposure to drugs and how it affected him during the early stages of his career. The vocalist of Thirty Seconds to Mars opened up about his interest and relationship with illicit substances during an interview with Apple Music 1 (via People).
I grew up in an environment where there were drugs. I mean, I knew what marijuana smelled like from a very, very young age. […] I’ve never had a ‘no’ for any of these things. I’ve always been interested in that. I’ve always been interested in drugs, I’ve always been interested in an experience… in taking some risk.
In the interview, Leto He admits recognizing the smell of marijuana, for example, since he was a child because he grew up ‘in an environment where there were drugs’. “Of course, using drugs is one thing, but it starts to lead you to other interests…”, she explains.
The musician and actor revealed that he had “an epiphany” regarding drug use and chose a better “path” for himself. “There were two paths I could take in life… I guess that’s the only way I can describe it. And I went that path and I had very close friends who didn’t. And they’re not here anymore. A lot,” he says.
Jared Leto is about to release his sixth album with Thirty Seconds to Mars, It’s the End of the World But It’s a Beautiful Day, scheduled to arrive on all digital platforms this Friday (September 15). In the conversation, the musician says that the new album marks “a new beginning” for the band.
