The new heroine of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ms. Marvel, is making a good impression so far. The Coming of Age Show superhero won critical acclaim so far, with many noting particularly the performance of newcomer Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan. Obviously, this is only the beginning of the vigilante teenager’s journey through the expansive universe, as she will appear in wonders next year. Of course, there was a lot of work to be done before Vellani’s Kamala made her big screen debut. And Disney + showrunner Bisha K. Ali shed some light on how her team prepared the character for the upcoming film.
Those who follow the inner workings of Marvel Studios know that there is frequent collaboration between creatives whenever certain productions connect directly with each other. For instance, ending of the Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo contribute to Ant-Man and the wasp credits scene , which was related to his own film. Most recently, I spoke to Bisha K. Ali on behalf of Gossipify al Mrs. Wonder press conference and asked if she and the team wonders they worked closely together. Although the screenwriter and executive producer was quick to reveal that she didn’t know anything about the film’s plot, she explained that she helped shape her thinking about her regarding Kamala’s journey:
I’m telling you, it’s absolutely true, I know absolutely nothing of what’s going on in this movie [laughs]. The one thing I knew everyone knew at the time was that this movie was happening, it was called The Marvels, it was going to happen. And I knew it started with my girlfriend, Kamala. And on the first day, she is a teenager in Jersey City, she has no powers. So I knew in the back of my head and by breaking this character arc, I would have pulled her out of a teen. [with] there are no powers for everything that happens in The Marvels, [by] the end of the show, right? So it was very clear and I liked what it meant to me and my approach and definitely the advice in many ways from the Marvel team, to make sure I am in the right headspace, without telling you spoilers.
So the writer had to introduce a completely new character to the MCU, tell her story, and prepare her to team up with two other heroes on a film she knows nothing about. I mean, it doesn’t matter, does it? Despite that, the TV boss has apparently slowed things down when it comes to creating Kamala Khan’s story arc. He also explained that she and her collaborators helped the people working on the film in essential ways:
I knew I had to take her there, I need it[ed] to prepare your partner for everything that would happen next. … Time-wise, we were further ahead in the creative process than in The Marvels. And The Marvels, of course, isn’t just Kamala Khan in Marvels, there are other Marvels in this movie. So there are a lot of other pieces that I really have no idea what was going on … I certainly didn’t know at the time. But creatively, when we had all of our scripts for the six episodes, they were at their disposal. Those were available to the Marvels team, so they had our scripts even before they were shot, they read them. So yes, they were aware of what we were doing. [with] Kamala’s background, her voice, how she behaves and who she becomes at the end of our show.
Plot details on the film directed by Nia DaCosta are rare at the moment. All fans know that the film will see Ms. Marvel join forces with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau. Samuel L. Jackson plays Nick Fury also, as well. DaCosta was careful not to ruin anything, but he did teased an exciting story for the sequel . The the candy man The director also talked about it balance the screen time between the three heroines .
Given her background, Nia DaCosta is sure to create something that represents her three central protagonists well. And now that we have tasted like Bisha K. Ali, Iman Vellani and company. they manipulated Kamala Khan, I can’t wait to see her merge with the others in the MCU movie.
wonders will be released in theaters on July 28, 2023 and is one of many amazing movies autumn next year. And while you wait, make sure airs new episodes of Mrs. Wonder (opens in a new tab) Thursday with yours Disney + subscription .
