How Mastodon and Gojira created tour and the importance of this union, according to Brann Dailor

On November 14, 2023, Mastodon and Gojira have a show scheduled to take place in SP, at Espaço Unimed

Responsible for playing two different styles of rock, but with a lot of love for the musical genre, the experienced and important bands Mastodon It is Gojira have come together again on a tour around the world – which will land in Brazil very soon.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil, Brann Dailordrummer of Mastodontalked about this new era of the heavy metal band after the pandemic Covid-19 and launch of Hushed and Grimthe band’s eighth studio album.

Second Dailorthe idea of doing another tour with Gojira It came naturally and quite easily. “It makes sense to everyone. So it wasn’t any kind of forced imagination,” said the musician. “We’ve also been friends for a long time. I feel like our bands sound very different, but I also feel like they’re cut from the same cloth, as far as artistic vision goes, and being something a little different to the metal scene in general, in recent times Early 20s.”

So it made sense for us to come out together because I think we have a lot of sympathy from a lot of fans, who love both bands. It was a pretty easy decision.

For the drummer, the importance of this union comes from a combination of two forces, with the ability to bring a greater production than both bands can, in addition to bringing an “interesting heavy metal night” for fans and rock lovers.

He further explained how the show’s production justifies fans coming and spending money on tickets, “because it’s a great exhibition in terms of production. And they’re, you know, two bands with a lot of history.”

What can fans expect from Gojira’s show with Mastodon?

Scheduled to take place on November 14, 2023 in São Paulo, in Unimed Spacethe show Gojira with Mastodon promises a lot of emotions, but Brann Dailor I didn’t want to give too many details about the setlist and took the opportunity to leave it a mystery, but I already revealed some elements.

“The show is kind of a lot of songs from all the albums. The setlist will have everything from our career, things from each album, and that’s what the fans can expect,” he said. “I hope some of your favorite songs are played [com] a lot of energy.” Furthermore, the visual part of the presentation also promises to impress the audience.

“Lots of cool things to see on stage, as well as big screens. I’m sure a lot of people have seen videos of the tour on YouTube that take place across the United States, or posts on Instagram,” he continued. “But none of them do justice to the show itself, so it’s definitely something you don’t want to miss.

I don’t know if it will happen again, because it’s very difficult. It seems that over the years it has been very difficult for us to get there. Enjoy it while you can, because you never know when it will all end. We’re definitely coming and don’t miss it. That’s my sales pitch. We are super excited.

Right away, Brann Dailor He praised Brazilian fans a lot. He even asked me if I had ever had the experience of attending a rock show outside of Brazil. When I answered no, the drummer said that I was “spoiled” because the audience here makes a lot of noise.

“Let me just tell you. The fans are unabashedly enthusiastic and so excited to be there,” he commented. “[Os brasileiros] they sing with the guitar solos and everything. It’s just a wonderful place for us to play. And we, you know, are really excited to go there, so…”

As Dailor recognized, Mastodon He rarely comes to Brazil and South America for logistical reasons. High costs make it impossible for many artists to visit the region frequently. Therefore, the two bands want to make the night of November 14th unforgettable for the public.

Because of this, they should not focus completely on each group’s most recent albums, Fortitude (2021) and Hushed and Grim (2021), and the setlist should include some classics. “For South America, we try to play it safe, where a lot of people have never seen us,” she said. “You’re not going to make everyone happy, obviously, with your decisions.”

However, this issue of coming to a place that bands don’t come to often doesn’t become a big challenge for Brann Dailor: “I’m just excited to get there. We push for it all the time. But a lot of times, logistically, it can’t happen for whatever countless reasons we’re given.”

It’s one of our favorite places to play. But unfortunately, we want to be able to deliver the live show that is expected of us as far as production and all that good stuff. We want to try to get as close to that as possible. But unfortunately, it is very expensive. It’s all the logistics that fall on us. And we got the bad news: ‘It’s just not going to happen. It’s not viable, you will lose thousands and thousands of dollars. And you can’t do that now.’ And blah, blah, blah, whatever the reasons given.

So, the show Mastodon with Gojira fits perfectly into the flow that Mastodon would like to follow and land in Brazil: “Fortunately, partnering with Gojira it makes sense. And this works for both bands. Will happen. Is happening. We are talking about this now. That’s why we’re talking now. So, yes, we are happy.”
