Ed Sheeran has a grave ready to be buried at home

Singer seems to think a lot about his own death, as he has also been working on an album to be released after his death

At the beginning of 2022, information circulated that Ed Sheeran would be building a crypt in the basement of a chapel located on his property in Suffolk, in England. The investigation was carried out by the newspaper The Guardianafter discovering that the musician had a pending request at city hall to approve the work.

At the time, he had obtained initial authorization only to build the chapel on the property, valued at US$5 million. After some time, he made his wish through the crypt, measuring about two by three meters.

Until then, Sheeran had not commented on the news. Now, in an interview with GQ, he not only confirmed the information but also gave some details of his initiative. First, he avoided using the word “crypt.” An update on the crypt that Ed Sheeran was trying to build on his huge estate in England: it’s real.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a crypt. It’s a hole dug in the ground with a piece of stone on top, so when the day comes and I pass away, I can be buried there.”

As Ed told the GQ, most of the loved ones he lost in his life were cremated. So, he never felt that he would be able to mourn their deaths in the same way as a funeral.

The gap was filled with his private chapel, complete with flint-lined walls, spiral staircase tower, lead roof and stained glass windows. Additionally, the prayer space is also used to host friends’ weddings.

Given this, the artist decided that he wanted to be buried there. It would also serve as a space for your children to mourn privately, without discomfort.

“People think it’s really weird and morbid, but I’ve had friends die without a will and no one knows what to do.”

Ed Sheeran’s mansion
