In the 1980s, even though he was part of established record labels and his compositions were recognized, he had a certain insecurity: “A supposed outsider, I always realized that success was fragile, especially mine, not aligned with the movements and to pathos, not a Carioca from the south, nor a guitarist, nor a rocker, or, as Belchior said, without important relatives and coming from the countryside.”

“My disdain for criticism also largely comes from my disdain for the media. I’ve never been a good diplomat, socially I’m a bit of a wild animal,” he continued.

Who is Guilherme Arantes

Guilherme Arantes was born in Sao Paulo, on July 28, 1953, to a doctor-surgeon father and a librarian and translator mother. He is the “middle child”, having two sisters.

From an early age he had access to musical instruments such as cavaquinho, mandolin and piano – of which he revealed he was a “terrible student” as a child.
