The last work of critically acclaimed Mrs. Wonder it happened and easily manages to keep the energy and fun it was established in episode 1 . After the chaotic events of AvengerCon, young Kamala Khan tries to learn how to control her new powers, with the help of her best friend Bruno. However, during the episode, viewers are also introduced to a new character in the form of Kamran, who quickly becomes the object of Kamala’s affections. However, it is soon revealed that there is more to the young man than meets the eye, and Rish Shah explained why he likes to play this somewhat “mysterious” character.
Kamran is set as an elderly British-Pakistani man who has just arrived in Jersey City and, after officially meeting Kamala at a party, the two quickly become friends (much to Bruno’s chagrin). Apparently, the show presents the charming young man simply as a love interest in the main hero. However, in the final minutes of the episode, he arrives to save a super powerful Kamala from being captured by DODC agents. And as they leave, he also introduces the hero to his mother, the same woman who appeared in Kamala’s vision at the beginning of the series.
Before the premiere of the series, I had the opportunity to speak with Rish Shah and his Mrs. Wonder co stars during the press trip to the exhibition. After watching the first two episodes, I asked him about the episode 2 ending and what it’s like to play such an enigmatic character. The star couldn’t say much about her character’s exact intentions, but she explained that she appreciates the opportunity to subvert the expectations of being “love interest”:
Yeah, I mean, I like that it’s not your typical love interest type of role. And I think it’s always interesting when you step into a role and play someone who is a little more mysterious and has a few more levels. And I think it was a really fun process. I mean, yeah, I’m not sure what I can say about where it’s going to go, but it was definitely … The first episode I walked in, I love that kind of thing. I mean, all things about dating and her meeting with Kamala are really sweet.
The scenes between Kamran and Kamala are really fun to watch. Whether they’re swooning for their favorite Bollywood stars or avoiding the latter’s big brother for a bite to eat, they’re downright adorable. However, this recent revelation should help ensure their relationship doesn’t get too conventional. Further comments from Rish Shah also seem to suggest that the dynamic between the two will have levels:
For me, I think Kamran acts as a hindrance for Kamala throughout the season and there are some parallels between their relationships with their families. And I want the fans to realize that Kamran begins to feel comfortable with her the first time they meet, and that’s really important.
We are at the beginning, but at this point it seems that the suave newcomer may end up being a driving force that helps Khan continue his path as a hero. (This could go a long way prepare it for the events of wonders ). And on the other side of the equation, it could help give a sense of stability to her potential boyfriend, who has so far apparently led an unpredictable life. Again, this is just speculation, but not entirely outside the realm of possibility.
We will have to keep watching to see how things go with Kamran, Kamala and the rest of the Ms. Marvel gang. However, one thing is clear at this point and it is that the stage is definitely set for what may be one of the most intriguing origin stories the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever made.
