Provocative, unusual and rock’n’roll: this is the debut of the singer-songwriter Gustavo Pio. He has just released his first single Vaca de Nativity, with his own composition and voice, on digital platforms. “It’s a song about trying to fit into a social role and not being able to. From there, you realize it’s no use and start using it as a shout of affirmation. When you don’t adapt, the possibility arises of being able to exist as you want ”, explains the artist.

His debut has the production of Martin Mendonça, guitarist of the singer Pitty and his partner in the Agridoce project. The artistic partnership between the two was born in the pandemic, when Gustavo began taking guitar lessons with Martin. “I told him I wanted to record some of my compositions, he got excited and agreed to produce. It was an immense joy for me, as I have admired his work for a long time “,

account.

In addition to Gustavo and Martin, the song also includes Duda Machado (former Pitty drummer), Cadinho Almeida (of the band Cascadura) and André T (who has worked with names such as Baiana System and Carlinhos Brown). André, among other things, is the founder of Estúdio T, which is located in Rio Vermelho (Salvador) and was used for the recording of the work. “The musicians are all from Salvador’s subway and are known in the midst of rock

alternative and mainstream.

The result of this combination is a sound with different influences, which is heavy but tastes different. We were able to get a very special sound that suited the music perfectly, ”says Pio.

Gustavo will also be the second artist to be released by the Praia dos Artistas label, a new adventure from the duo Martin Mendonça and Juana Diniz. “Martin invited me to release the song for the label and I saw it as an opportunity for us to continue this project from the release onwards. He was very supportive, especially in all operational things involving the release. of a song.

route change

Gustavo was born in Belo Horizonte, but grew up in the hinterland of Minas Gerais, in the city of Luz. It was in this quiet environment with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants that he remained until the age of 13, when he moved to the capital. There he graduated with a degree in journalism from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in 2014, but found that he didn’t identify much with the area.

After deciding to focus on music, Gustavo again took the entrance exam to study Popular Music at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and moved to Salvador in 2017, where he still lives today. “I have grown a lot in this process, Minas and Bahia are very different places, but they complement each other in many ways. This experience was essential for my development as an artist and opened new doors and horizons for me ”.
