Taylor Swift fans who packed Engenhão Stadium in Rio were outraged by the postponement of the show that was due to take place today. The decision was only announced to those already inside the Engenhão stadium at 5.45pm, prompting much booing and insults.
As if that wasn’t enough, upon exiting the public was greeted by a series of fishing boats, demonstrating yet another problem in organizing the event. An open problem, nets at concert exits are already becoming the norm in Rio de Janeiro, as this Saturday’s attack is a repeat of what happened last week at the RBD shows.
“Taylor’s time with Tio was terrible… people feeling sick, fan death, show postponed, dragnet, production negligence. All this in two days!” one fan vented on X (formerly Twitter).
What was there?
Taylor Swift has decided to postpone her second show in Brazil due to the intense heat prevailing in the capital Rio. The temperature reached 43.8ºC, the highest since 2008, when thermometers reached 44.2ºC in the city centre. In a video posted on social media, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes said the show had been rescheduled to Monday (20th).
“I write this directly from the locker room of my stadium. We have decided to postpone today’s show due to the extreme temperature in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, colleagues and team must always come first,” he said Taylor in a note. posted on his Instagram.
On social media, the cancellation caused terms like “Já Eras Tour” and “She no more come” to go viral, a meme originally created when Lady Gaga canceled her trip to Brazil on the eve of her Rock in Rio show in 2017. There was also no shortage of record breaking trawlers, causing rushes and panic in the heat, making the word “Chaos” a trending topic in Brazil.
“The weather conditions, she (Taylor) knew about it from yesterday,” one mother told GloboNews. “It must be in the air conditioning of the Fasano hotel. I demand respect.”
