Ximbinha sues Joelma for improper use of the Calypso brand: “A blow she gave me”

Ximbinha has opened a lawsuit against singer Joelma for improper use of the Calypso brand, the name of the band that belongs to the former couple. The guitarist said he feels he has been dealt a blow by his ex-wife, as the name can only be used together.

“The name Calypso is ours. It can only be used together. I can’t use it alone, and neither can she. And she, I feel like it’s a scam she did on me, she gave me the show name ‘That’s Calypso,’ but it just says ‘Calypso’. This is before the courts,” Ximbinha revealed in an interview on the Intelligence Ltda podcast.

Separated for five years, Ximbinha also spoke of the period in which he was left alone in music due to the divorce. “I’m starting my career again,” he declared, signing a new musical partnership with Jessica Rodrigues under the name “Ximbinha e Banda”.

“The band was my soul. I suffered a lot. And when it ended, my children left together. My son came to live with me after a while. I was away from my children and there were a lot of things to do. They tell a lot of people things I didn’t know and if I were to speak up, it would really affect my children’s minds. […] It was very difficult, a very complicated separation. Many people throw stones and say things they don’t know,” she complained.

Troubled divorce

Ximbinha stated that he “ate the bread that the devil kneaded” at the time and was almost “lynched during a show” by Joelma’s fans. The guitarist also said that they invaded his house to try to kill him, but that he preferred to remain silent to avoid repercussions.

“When he started to point out, to talk about the music, he threw 50,000 people into Brasilia to lynch me. I ran away, I locked myself inside the airport, sad, crying. When I came home, I didn’t have a piece of furniture, nothing. My daughter was on the floor studying. I was desperate and asked: ‘Where are the things in the house?’. And she said that ‘Mom sent them to get them’. I was very sad, really bad,” she said visibly. shaken.

“He put a protection measure so that I would no longer go on stage. I managed to overturn this protection measure to terminate the contract. When I go on stage, I sing five songs to Teresina and she doesn’t go. She arrived crying and the People started throwing rocks, cans and bottles at me. It was the saddest and most desperate moment I have ever experienced in my life. It was the band’s last show. I never said anything. If you see how much I spent on stage. His Fans chased me day after night. They broke into my house to kill me. I had to hide. It was very difficult.”

Three years after the divorce, Ximbinha married lawyer Karen Kethlen, considered the key to his separation from Joelma. The two live together in the same villa where the guitarist lived with his ex-wife, in Pará.
