Guilherme Arantes: “There are many lies in MPB”

The singer and songwriter responded to a fan’s comment on a post paying tribute to singer Claudette Soares

The singer, songwriter and hitmaker Guilherme Aranteswho performs this Saturday, 2, a St. Paul, claimed on his Facebook account that “there are many lies in the MPB.” Arantes responded to a follower who confirmed a statement he made in a post paying homage to singer Claudette Soares, one of the muses of bossa nova.

Arantes began the post by praising Claudette’s performance during the recording of the song The weather, by Reginaldo Bessa, published by her in the 70s. The singer wrote that this song was one of the great influences in her history. “An incredible beauty,” Arantes said of the ballad.

In the comments on the post, a follower of Arantes said he saw him play this song at a concert in 1978, on a grand piano. “Unfortunately we didn’t have a cell phone at the time. History,” summed up the fan.

Arantes then responded: “See? You can bear witness to it that it’s not just bullshit under the usual seal of the MPB! There are so many lies in the MPB! So much fake protagonism. The fact is that history will save us!”, he said.

Arantes also stated in the initial post that he had just composed a new song for Claudette, which is expected to be recorded on an album by the singer that is in production.

“Soon the world will be able to taste the producer of this story. A new song I made for her (Claudette), which I hope lives up to everything I’ve ever heard through your voice,” he wrote.

Arantes often uses his social networks to communicate with his fans. Recently, he, who turned 70, vented about being blamed for his appearance, and criticized a question – “toxic”, in his opinion – that host Anne Lottermann had asked him during his participation in now defunct program.
