Diplo, one of the world’s most famous DJs and music producers, is accused of posting intimate photos on the Internet out of revenge. The information was revealed by music site Pitchfork.
The young American Shelly Auguste, who filed a lawsuit against the artist in August this year, told the Los Angeles Police Department that he distributed naked photos of her without her permission. The charge is being investigated by the city attorney.
This is the second time Shelly has accused Diplo of distributing intimate content. The first legal battle occurred in 2020, when she sued him for sexual assault, gender violence, intentional intrusion into private matters, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and fraud, as well as violation of civil rights.
He denies it
In October 2021 Diplo denied the initial allegations, but will still have to participate in a civil trial scheduled for April 2024. The producer is also suing Shelly for stalking, trespassing and distribution of private material.
Attorney Bryan J. Freedman, who represents Diplo, said the new allegations are baseless. “For more than three years, Shelly Auguste has orchestrated a smear campaign against Wesley—and this is more of the same,” he said, using the producer’s real name, Thomas Wesley Pentz.
How did it all happen?
Shelly Auguste claims she was approached on Twitter by Diplo in 2014, when she was 17. The two exchanged messages and met in person at a nightclub four years later. In 2019, they had sex for the first time and the relationship was reportedly recorded by the producer. On the second date, she penetrated her without consent.
In 2020, the young American requested a restraining order against Diplo, who had knowingly given her an STI (sexually transmitted infection).
