The band Sepultura announced this Friday (8/12) that they will disband. The statement was posted on the band’s official Instagram.

“Sepultura will stop. They will die. A conscious and planned death. Over the next 18 months we will celebrate 40 years with our fans on a farewell tour that will take place across the planet. It will be a celebration of the past and present for the last time,” said the group, who titled their farewell tour “Celebrating Life Through Death.”

The quartet consisting of Derrick Green, Paulo Jr., Eloy Casagrande and Andreas Kisser has already announced that farewell shows will begin in 2024 and take place in several countries in the Americas and Europe. There will be a total of 40 shows.

The final tour will be recorded and will result in a live album, with 40 songs recorded across the band’s 40 performances.

End of the Sepultura

Sepultura was created by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, in Belo Horizonte (MG), in 1984, and at the time already included bassist Paulo Jr. The band became a reference in heavy metal, mainly for mixing the heavy sound with tribal, indigenous elements. people, Africans, among others.

International recognition came in 1996, when the group released the album “Roots”, which also included Carlinhos Brown as one of the collaborators. The album also marked the farewell of singer Max Calavera, while his brother (drummer) left the band 10 years later.

Of the original lineup, only bassist Paulo Jr. remained present throughout all the different configurations. After him, guitarist Andrea Kisser is the oldest current member, having joined the band in 1987. Vocalist Derrick Green joined in 1998, after Max’s departure.
