Sophie Ellis Bextor’s hit ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ was included on the ‘Saltburn’ soundtrack
After being included on the soundtrack of Saltburn (2023), Sophie Ellis-Bextor will release a limited edition of “Murder on the Dancefloor” on vinyl and CD. Both formats are now available for pre-sale, with the launch scheduled for February 16th, by Polydor/Universal.
The singer also released an EP on streaming services that includes, in addition to “Murder on the Dancefloor”, the B-side “Never Let Me Down”, as well as remixes of “Dancefloor”, by Jewels & Stone, Danny D, Hq It is Twin Murder. The tracks came out in 2001, but were never on music platforms.
Back in the spotlight

Sophie was in the shadow of his partnership with the Italian DJ Spiller in “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)”, from 2000, when he released the single Take Me Home — cover of the homonymous track by Cher. The song was included on the singer’s debut album, Read My Lips (2001), and reached number two in the UK music chart UK Singles Chart.
The album, with sounds typical of 1980s music, received several negative reviews and was not considered commercial enough. Only with the release of “Murder on the Dance Floor”, the second single from the album, Sophie saw his career on the rise.
Years later, in 2023, Ellis-Bextor returned to the spotlight with “Murder on the Dance Floor” when it was included on the soundtrack of Saltburn, during a scene in which the character of Barry Keoghan dances naked in a mansion. Watch the trailer:
