The singer performed on Sunday 28th at the Salvador Summer Festival. At Carnival the Minister of Culture will be in a trio
A few minutes before performing at the Salvador Summer Festival together with Daniela Mercury and the Afro bloc Ilê Ayê, on Sunday 28th, the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, spoke to journalists about her growing desire to resume her activity as a singer and songwriter. Margareth, who has a career spanning 37 years, has dedicated herself to the Ministry of Culture (Minc) for a year.
“Last summer I didn’t do anything. I really gave up. I only did five shows, which were already sold out before. But I have to sort out my career,” Margareth said.
In this carnival, the minister will join the Paraíba singer Chico César in the Trio da Cultura (which has no connection with Minc), which will parade in Salvador on February 10. They will pay homage to Gilberto Gil.
“It took me a while to decide, but I absolutely cannot not participate in this carnival. It is an artistic appeal, but also a sentimental one. It is part of my health. I was born in music. I need to take care of this legacy. I can abandon it,” said the singer, owner of hits such as Pharaoh AND Black race.
The singer said the decision not only affects her, but also her audience and her team.
Margareth revealed that she wants to release a new album in 2024, the most recent one, Macaco Sessions – Margareth Menezes, was launched in 2022, but this will depend on how he manages to reconcile his activities as a minister in the Lula government.
After being informed by the report of Estadao that Gil, Minister of Culture from 2003 to 2008, released an album during his term, Margareth reacted in good spirits:
“Okay, you’re already giving me the hint.”
