The group consecrated ‘Prefixo de Verão’ and ‘Baianidade Nagô’, songs that have become hymns of Salvadoran holidays

Anyone who loves the Bahia carnival will probably have heard the lines “Summer is already painted/Warmth in the heart/The party is about to begin/Salvador gets excited/A joy” or “Ave, Salvador/Me bato, me io” in some trio pause, all for love/ I am from Pelô”.

In the nineties, at the height of the so-called axé music, Mel Band became famous in the Bahia carnival with these two songs, Baianidade Nagô AND Summer prefixwhich became national hits and are still sung by trioselectrics.

Summer prefix, for example, has been recorded by names such as Daniela Mercury, Bell Marques, Ara ketu, Netinho, among other artists. Another song by the band that became a hit was Belief and faith (I’ll travel around the world).

After interrupting their activities in the following decade, the group, led by singers Robson Morais and Márcia Short, announced that this carnival will return to celebrate 40 years of career.

Banda Mel will parade on February 11th at the Dodô Circuit and on February 12th at the Omar Circuit. They should then go on tour in Brazil. Robson and Márcia already attended a show by singer Saulo Fernandes on February 1 in Salvador.

The music producer Manno Goes has published a video that recalls the journey of the Mel Band:
