Boy George faced backlash on social media after giving his fans the single “Religion.” It turns out that the cover of the release is identical to the cover of Kylie Minogue’s “Tension” album (2023).
The images focus on the artists with green light on their faces, a yellowish background and the same characters in all sentences, something that caught the attention of Kylie’s audience. “I thought this was a meme, but it’s 100% real,” said one fan on X (formerly Twitter).
In light of the controversy, Boy George made no secret that he had indeed copied his longtime friend’s work: “I’m recycling everything, it’s fashionable,” the singer joked.
Fan or hater?
Last year, Boy George reportedly admitted that he was responsible for the leak of the hit “Padam Padam”, the lead song from Kylie Minogue’s album. The singer was surprised by her colleague’s revelation, suggesting that she didn’t believe it was out of malice.
Boy George released his new single with this cover (identical to Kylie Minogue’s Tension album) and his response to critics was: “I’m recycling everything… isn’t that what they’re doing now?”
Clearly a criticism of the industry and a very fine shade. pic.twitter.com/tLmFI4jHwV
