Last Friday (23), the singer Caetano Veloso debuted a new single. The French classic La Mer It was recorded in voice and guitar format.
The song is Charles Trenet’s (1913-2001) greatest hit. Caetano’s recording is part of the soundtrack of Unite the familydocumentary by French writer and director Christine Angot.
“Guilherme Araújo was my manager. For years he asked me to sing ‘La Mer’. I liked it immensely. I promised to learn the song well and sing it the next season. I kept putting it off. When he died, I heard it” , the singer said on his Instagram.
At a recent show in Paris, Caetano sang the song as a posthumous tribute to his manager.
“At a show in Paris, I sang ‘La Mer’ in tribute to him posthumously. The writer Christine Angot was in the audience. I think she was as moved as I was, because, after completing a film about his life, she asked me to record the music as I did years ago in Paris: alone with the guitar and at an ultra-slow pace. Here’s how I recorded it”, finished.
