10 new band clips influenced by shoegazer noise

More and more artists on the international indie scene thought of listening to their parents’ records a lot, recycling the alternative rock that exploded in the 90s. Although remembered mostly for grunge, the decade was also the time when shoegazer noise had a rare success. commercials and the selection of clips below highlight several approaches to this influence, including a cover of The Jesus and Mary Chain, the band that started the microphone-based genre.

The videos are available below in two modes: traditional, with brief information about the artists under each clip, and via playlist (found at the end of the post), for those who prefer a continuous session – the most suitable method for watching on a Smart TV (Cast option, in Chrome settings tab or More tools / Cast etc. in Edge).

| DEATH BELLS | AUSTRALIA / USA

Australian band Will Canning and Remy Veselis, currently based in California, are preparing the release of their third album (“Between Here & Everywhere”), scheduled for July 29th. The latest single is a cross between the sad melodies of post-punk and the microphones of the alternative rock of the Sonic Youth generation.

| THE GATES OF THE CITY | CANADA

The Montreal quartet is clearly influenced by Jesus and Mary Chain, with their pulsating drums, fuzz-soaked bassline and layers of mic’d guitars. The “Claiming Race” clip, which evokes the classy aesthetic of 1986, was produced and edited by drummer Jahanzaib Mirza.

| A PLACE TO SEP THE UNKNOWN | United States of America

The veteran American band formed 20 years ago has been completely revamped on their latest album (“See Through You”), keeping only vocalist and guitarist Oliver Ackermann from the original lineup – and increasingly sounding like Jim Reid (The Jeus and Mary Chain) . .

| PONY DA FOSSA | ENGLAND

Taken from their debut album “World To Me”, out July 1, “Supermarket” explores the relationship between grunge and shoegazer on a frantic journey, like most tumultuous relationships.

| OBJECT OF AFFECTION | United States of America

Formed two years ago in Los Angeles, Object of Affection is an indie supergroup that brings together members of the bands Death Bells and Fury in a shoegazer project that feels more like a collaboration between The Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine.

| STELLAR STATE | United States of America

The New York quintet, named after actor Ben Stiller, adds melodic television and post-punk to the shoegazer’s raucous feedback. An interesting detail is that none of the members of the Brooklyn-formed band were born in New York and guitarist Nando Dale, by the way, is Brazilian.

| INFLUENZA INFLUENZA | SPAIN

The strident group of Seville shoegazers includes singer Fran Lora, who alternates songs in English and Spanish. But singles are usually recordings in Queen Elizabeth’s language, because Flu Flu releases records on an English label (Shore Dive Records).

| SOFT PUNK | United States of America

Justin Kim aka Suave Punk started recording last year and has not yet released his first album. The new single, “Petals”, is characteristic of the artist’s style: a sad ballad with feedback, which sounds like Neil Young played by the Pastels.

| NEW CANDIES | ITALY

The Venetian band sings only in English and with “Volunteer” takes an unusual dip in Ride-influenced surf music. It is also the latest single from the album “Stars Reach the Abyss”, released in March.

| CHAPTER | CANADA

With many quotes from Jesus and Mary Chain, a cover could not be missing: “Taste of Cindy”, from the famous album “Psychocandy” (1985). The courtesy is due to the Capitol band, which curiously have always shown that they have more to do with Joy Division.
