O Woman’s Day, celebrated on March 8, has its origins in 1917. Thus, on this date, around 90 thousand Russian workers took to the streets to demand better working and living conditions. Furthermore, they demonstrated against the tsar Nicholas II. This event became known as “Bread and Peace”. In this way, the day was established when Russian women gained the right to vote.
The idea of a celebration dedicated to women arose in 1908, when around 1500 female people joined together in a demonstration in favor of economic and political equality in USA. Thus, in 1909, the US Socialist Party made official the National Women’s Day on February 28th. Another milestone for the establishment of Women’s Day was a fire that happened in New York.
The fire happened in Triangle Shirtwaist Company and killed 146 people, 125 women and 21 men. From that, the Woman’s Day began to be celebrated and celebrated. However, it is worth highlighting the daily struggle of all of them for equal conditions, respect and education.
