Between 2011 and 2020, several rumors surfaced about Duffy’s disappearance. During the pandemic, when the world was isolated, the singer decided to share an open letter to her fans about the real reason for her disappearance: she had been drugged, kidnapped and raped. The author’s identity was not revealed.

“It was my birthday, I was drugged in a restaurant, I was drugged for four weeks and I traveled to a foreign country. I don’t remember getting on a plane and getting into the back of a traveling vehicle. I was put inside a hotel room and the attacker raped me. I remember the pain and trying to stay conscious in the room after what happened,” he says in the statement.

The singer says she felt insecure for a long time and tried to hide the fact, but this ended up making her ill. The first person to find out was a psychologist, months after the accident. “I have no idea how I was lucky enough to find her so many years ago. Without her, I might not have survived,” he says.

Duffy remained isolated for a long time, even away from the presence of family and friends, who tried to help her. She moved several times, until she arrived at the place she calls “House 5”. This was where she felt the attacker would never be able to find her again.

“It’s just that I haven’t been the same person for so long. Rape is like a living murder, you’re alive but dead. All I can say is that it took a long time, sometimes seeming forever, to heal my broken pieces. .”, he underlined.

In the letter, dated April 5, 2020, the artist talks about the isolation he experienced and took advantage of it to motivate his fans to continue.

“Isolation is a small price to pay to save lives, so we must be strong. This requires all of us, as one, to act for each other; awareness has never been more vital than it is now If you are reading this and If you are sad, my encouragement is that… to know pain, you must first know how to love. Only the absence of love causes pain. So, go find it. Seek love in every thing, even in a cup of wine. tea,” he stressed, before demanding that no more questions be asked about “what happened to Duffy”.
