Taylor Swift just released her long-awaited new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” and to everyone’s surprise, it’s a double album.

“It’s a 2am surprise: ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is a secret double album,” Swift wrote in a post on her Instagram in the early hours of Thursday (18th) to Friday (19th). “I’ve written a lot of haunted poems over the last couple of years and I wanted to share them all with you, so here’s part two of ‘TTPD: The Anthology.’ 15 extra songs. And now the story is no longer mine
 it’s all yours.”

Taylor previously described the record as “An anthology of new works that reflect the events, opinions and feelings of a fleeting and fatalistic moment – a moment that was both sensational and sad.”

But what fans have really been speculating since the work hit the platforms is who Taylor is talking about in each of the songs, as she’s been known to talk about her past relationships in the lyrics.

Fans speculate, for example, that “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and “Guilty as Sin?” are references to the band’s 1975 lead singer, Matty Healy, who he briefly dated in 2023.

Former boyfriend and longtime actor Joe Alwyn may also be the target of her ire, according to speculation in the British press. On the other hand, the song “The Alchemy”, which has references to American football, seems to have been inspired by her new relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.

“The Tortured Poets Department” is Swift’s eleventh studio album and comes on the heels of the star’s box office success The Eras Tour, which became the first tour to surpass $1 billion in revenue and travels across the U.K. and Europe from May.
