Next Saturday, May 4, the 65-year-old artist will perform for free in a megastructure on Copacabana beach
About to perform in Rio de Janeiro, Madonna can become honorary citizen of the city. The decree that attributes the title to the American singer was approved last Thursday 25th by the City Council.
The 65-year-old artist will perform a megastructure show on Copacabana Beach next Saturday, May 4, to conclude the tour Celebration. According to the organizers of the event, more than 1 million people are expected, including city residents and Brazilian and foreign tourists.
The project, signed by Cesare Maia (PSD) e Carlo Caiado (PSD), states that Madonna’s arrival in Brazil “not only attracts and has a direct impact on the economic, cultural and tourist growth of our city, but also offers a unique opportunity to celebrate one of the greatest artists of all times”.
The lyrics also highlight the singer’s successes in the music industry, as well as her philanthropy and activism throughout her career, stating that “her impact transcends music and entertainment, also influencing social and political issues throughout the world”.
Madonna does not need to appear at the Rio City Council to accept the title. The honor can be awarded anywhere, including at the Copacabana Palace hotel, where she will be staying for the show. So far, however, there is no information on any ceremony.
Madonna show in Rio
Singer Madonna’s free concert on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro will receive a large investment from the municipality. The administration confirmed that it will donate R$ 10 million to BonusTrack, the producer responsible, to make the artist’s presentation. The value was published in official diary.
Madonna will perform with The celebration tour, which celebrates the artist’s 40-year career. The show, which will start around 9.45pm, will last two hours and will be broadcast live by TV Globo. The American DJ Diplo will open the presentation.
Daniela Maia, Rio’s municipal secretary of Tourism, said the security system will be “at least the same” as last New Year’s Eve in the city. On the day of the show the subway will run until 4 in the morning. The performance will be the only one of the artist’s tour in South America.
