Music is a continuous evolution. And it is at this rate that the most successful name of the Curitiba pagoda has decided to rewrite its history. After 17 years, the Makinada group has reinvented itself and now returns with new protagonists, allowing the story to continue.

The recovery, the kick-off of this comeback, will be on Sunday 12 May, in an even more special place for the history of the band: +55, with the Makinada sunset, the launch party that will celebrate history and the current moment. Tickets are on sale.

With Pagode’s lively sound and the group’s charisma, Makinada has always been a party, not just a band. In this shot, beyond simply “putting on a show”, the band wants to offer new experiences and connect with the audience.

“This is our priority, what we have always done, has always worked and what we want to continue doing now, with the new lineup”

reveals Arthur Pereira Loro, partner of the band.

Leading the band are Brunno Lima (singer), Eduardo Alifantis (percussionist), Diogo Ramalho (keyboardist) and André Sampaio (cavaquinist). The team arrives to continue a 17-year history, always marked by lots of music and joy.

“Makinada is coming with a lot of nice things, a lot of new things. The kids are very enthusiastic and identify a lot with the brand. There will be a lot of show openings, a lot of new labels, a lot of nice parties and a nice experience for those who already appreciated Makinada to follow again and for people who don’t know it yet and will be able to know and identify with the brand and with the experiences and new projects of this new stage”.

The location of the return show could not be anything else: +55 was one of the nightclubs in Curitiba that had always hosted and hosted Makinada parties. Added to this is also the current phase of the capital of Paraná.

“The pagoda has grown a lot in Curitiba, it is not surprising that many names have come to the city and it is always a success. I think Curitiba has many people who love and embrace the pagoda, it has grown a lot and has become uniform All the events we have in city, 99% are full.”

A bit of history

The band, which emerged in 2007, went through two main phases before what can now be seen as the biggest change. Founded by João Gilberto Abrão, the group started out playing samba rock, then moved on to pagode and adapted to the rhythm.

The essence of the group has always been linked to the pagoda classics of the 90s and 2000s. In 2019, João invited Arthur Pereira Loro as a band partner and then came the second moment of the group, which began to invest in its own events. and has gained even more relevance in the city. With the change, they also went outside of Paraná, playing in one of the editions of Folia no Park, in Florianópolis.

In addition to playing practically permanently at the Bossa Bar, Makinada gradually built their own history: they created their first label, which was nothing more than a party with a studied format, which until then was not common in Curitiba.

At this first party, which Os Travessos attended, more than a thousand invitations were immediately sold. They created other formats and innovated in Curitiba festivals. With the pandemic, they played the first show in Paraná in drive-in format, at Pedreira Paulo Leminski, where they also recorded a song.

“It was unusual because we played with cars, in the Pedreira parking lot. It wasn’t applause, it was horns and high lights. It was really fun, actually, but it was the format we could go back to.”

They also made a few more presentations in a smaller format, opening the Thiaguinho and Menos É Mais exhibitions, at Expotrade, in the box system imposed by the pandemic. Then, as the situation improved, they created a luau, which was the Makinada Luau, which was a different project, but it was a success.

“We had to book a table two months in advance because the event was so popular.”

Despite all the success, 2022 was the band’s last year with the old lineup. With his full schedule, João could no longer continue, Arthur became a father and the band’s request was unachievable. The band stopped, but that’s when the new meaning came.

New protagonists

The redefinition of Makinada began after Bruno Lima, who is a singer and was out of music, wanted to return to the music world. From there the idea of filming the group, recreating the story was born.

“He took a year without music, he decided to come back and he went to talk to João for advice, and João gave him the idea. He liked it. They talked to me, I accepted because it had everything to do with the mark “

Today João and Arthur have become the band’s managers, together with another partner, Leo Bontorin. They became the pillars behind the band.

“Bruno, Dudu, André and Diogo have now become the new phase of Makinada. They have the task of giving life to this chapter of our dream. And we want to ensure that the boys only worry about singing, doing networking, of the musical part yes”.

The band knows they have a new challenge ahead of them, but the experience João and Arthur have gained over the years will be trivial at this point.

“It’s a new challenge. I’ve always been curious what it was like behind the scenes, working behind the scenes. You leave the stage to work for the people who will be on stage. But because Makinada has always had this side of creating his own labels , the events themselves, I think this becomes easier because we already looked at the band as a company. The band already had a direction as a company, we had the artistic side and the management side. It would have been easy if someone had given us of the indications that we did not know and we were shocked. Today, given that we have already lived these experiences, it is much easier to direct the kids to make fewer mistakes.”

Arthur defines the moment as a revival with new protagonists, but with the same essence as always.

“The story continues. It is a restart, but it is a new chapter, a new formation, but with the same essence as always. We have renewed the formation, the boys arrive with a completely new energy, the blood in their eyes to make it happen, but with the management and with the essence that Makinada has always had of creating its own events and giving the public an experience that goes to see Makinada”.
