The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, announced on Wednesday (5/8) that the shows of the singer Bruno Mars, scheduled for October 4 and 5, will not take place due to the proximity to the first round of the municipal elections, scheduled for October 6. On his social networks, Paes explained that the request for public employees, especially in the security forces, is incompatible with the holding of large events during the electoral period.
Controversy over ticket sales
According to the mayor, the company responsible for the Bruno Mars show was informed of the restriction on the same day the October 4 date was announced. However, tickets went on sale, selling out in about an hour. An additional date for October 5 was then opened, despite previous warnings. “Even so they sold tickets,” Paes emphasized. Ticket sales for the new show begin this Thursday (5/9).

Eduardo Paes reiterated that authorization for the shows will not be granted during election week, asking that their publication on social media serve as a definitive warning to avoid any misunderstanding about the conduct of the events. “If the warnings given were not enough, this publication serves to avoid imagining that an irreversible situation will be created,” he said. He also said that, outside of election periods, it would be an honor to welcome Bruno Mars to town.
