Singer Shares Details of Her Struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome in Film ‘I Am: Céline Dion’
Prime Video has released the poster and trailer for “I Am: Celine Dion,” a documentary that chronicles the singer’s moving account of her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disease. In the video, Céline appears teary-eyed as she talks about the challenges she faces due to her condition.
Emotional story
In the trailer, Celine Dion shares the difficulty of having to cancel shows, but says she doesn’t want to give up on her career. “If I can’t run, I walk. If I can’t walk, I crawl. But I don’t stop. I don’t stop,” the singer declared, underlining her determination.
Elsewhere in the video, the artist talks about his love for his profession and the importance of music in his life. “My voice is the engine of my life. When your voice brings you joy, you feel phenomenal. I need my instrument. I wasn’t ready to talk about it before, but I am now. It’s not hard to put on a show. The thing it’s difficult to cancel. I work every day, but I admit it was difficult, I miss them a lot, I miss them.
Disease disclosure
In December 2022, Céline Dion released an emotional statement, revealing her struggle with stiff person syndrome. In a video, the artist said that the stage of the disease was advanced and that she risked turning into a “human statue”.
Last year, Claudette Dion, the singer’s sister, revealed in December that Celine “has no control over her muscles” and “has been working hard” on improvements.
There is currently no cure for PRS. Celine Dion follows a palliative treatment which involves the use of muscle relaxants, immunomodulators and corticosteroids, as per medical advice.
“I Am: Celine Dion” premieres June 25.
