Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn explains why Eddie’s Season 4 finale was “weird” for stars to film

Warning: MAIN SPOILERS NEXT for Volume 2 of Strange things Season 4 on Netflix.

The long awaited fourth season of Strange things ended with the release of volume 2, consisting of two episodes with a combined duration of nearly four hours. Despite an elaborate plan to destroy Vecna forever with Eleven relying on Max’s spirit to try and save the day, the heroes suffered heavy losses at the end of the finale, including Eddie’s death. . actor Joseph Quinn joined the cast of season 4 and quickly became a fan favorite, telling Gossipify about his character’s tragic death … and why it was strange for him to film it with co-star Gaten Matarazzo.

Eddie died as a hero, after playing an epic version of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” in reverse to ward off Creel House’s swarm of Demo-Bats. Instead of running away from his version of Hawkins, he stayed behind to continue working as a distraction and make sure they stayed upside down instead of chasing Dustin through the door. Unfortunately, the Demo-Bats were only eliminated after being fatally wounded and fans had to say goodbye to another character. Apparently they should have been worried about Eddie. instead of Steve !

And Eddie’s farewell to Dustin on Upside Down will be one of the heartbreaking goodbyes of Season 4, with a repeat of “I Think This Is My Year” and “I Love You.” Gossipify spoke to Joseph Quinn about his work in Season 4 and shared how the filming sequence made Eddie’s death scene “weird” for him and Gaten Matarazzo:

It was a little strange. We shot it at the end of a night sequence, just before dawn, so we only managed to get my coverage. And a month later, we shot the cover of Gaten in the studio. So it was kind of weird.

Even though Eddie’s death scene looked completely coherent (and heartbreaking) in the final product of the Season 4 finale, it turns out that the performances of Joseph Quinn and Gaten Matarazzo have been filmed in weeks. With such a dramatic scene between these two characters shot in two different locations and so much time between their performances, it’s no wonder it’s “weird” to film!

Shooting the scene this way technically meant Quinn could have shot without Matarazzo and Matarazzo without Quinn, so they were there to cover each other up? The actor solved the question:

We are always there for each other.

Is it still heartbreaking that Eddie died alongside Dustin, as season 4 spent nine episodes building their bond and how much did they mean to each other? Absolutely, but it’s so good to hear that the actors “were always there for each other”. If there’s a silver lining to Eddie’s death (besides playing the most metal gig ever with Metallica in reverse before Demo-Bats got in), it’s proof of Dustin’s connection.

Joseph Quinn also talked about working with Gaten Matarazzo on the very sincere dynamic between their characters, with a hint of Joe Keery (who plays Steve). He said:

It was a joy. Joe Keery and I are constantly sharing stories about everything this guy does, because we are so in love with him. And not just me and Joe, [but] we’re lucky to have our characters written to have that kind of brotherly dynamic with him. So I think we see it in that light, maybe a little more than others. He is an extraordinarily gifted young man, and he is also a great person. So I think being able to work with him as much as me was a great gift.

Unfortunately, Eleven didn’t have a last-minute layover for Eddie like it did for Max (and it remains to be seen if Max can actually be brought back), so the end of season 4 feels like the end of the season. . and Dustin’s link on Strange things. Of course, season 3 briefly brought back Sean Astin after Bob’s death in season 2, and season 4 brought Dacre Montgomery back to life after Billy’s death in season 3, so it’s possible that Joseph Quinn could reprise his role for flashbacks or visions. We can always hope!

For now, fans can still revisit Eddie’s life – and death – if they’re willing to revisit that particular scene – with the two volumes of Strange things (opens in a new tab) season 4 aired with a Netflix membership now . It has been an exciting journey with many tragedies but fans they console themselves with one thing and the nine long episodes provide plenty of material to speculate on how long the hiatus will last before the fifth and final season.

Vecna was hurt in the finale, but she wasn’t defeated, so fans can probably expect to see more big villains (including The look was enough for Millie Bobby Brown to burst into tears ) when the program returns.
