The artist is responsible for the compositions of the band Calypso, Gaby Amarantos and other singers of the genre
The composer Tony Brazil, considered the ‘father of technobrega’, died last Sunday, 2nd, at the age of 57. The cause of his death was not disclosed by his family. In April the artist was hospitalized after suffering a stroke. His body was buried in Belém, Pará.
On social media the musician’s wife, Mariza Siqueirashe vowed not to let her husband’s legacy be forgotten: “I have no words to describe the pain I feel knowing that I won’t see you call me kitten every day. Only God knows how tirelessly I fought to get you back. But God wanted you around and I have learned that we must not go against God’s will. It hurts a lot, my love.”
“Thank you for being a partner, friend, husband and above all father of our children who we love so much. You will cheer for each of us from above. It will not be easy, but I will continue with our projects and achievements. You will always be our hero and we know how strong you have been until now, Tonny, we will always have everything for your legacy and the more than 2,000 compositions you left to the Pará culture.”
Tony Brasil was responsible for composing the band’s greatest hits Calypsoby the singer Gaby Amarantos and other artists of the genre. In the 2000s, he found success playing synthesizer-heavy songs at shows in the capital of Pará, as well as adding elements of Caribbean music to his songs, which were re-recorded by big names like Leonardo, Pablo and Léo Magalhães.
Gaby, one of the artists who recorded Tonny’s hits, also used her networks to mourn the artist’s death: “We lost the father of technobrega Tonny Brasil. Great composer, music producer and artist who was always enthusiastic about the my successes. Tonny will always be a visionary of the suburbs who with few resources helped many artists to make a career. Thank you maestro, fly in peace!”
