Radio host Marco Antonio Abreu, of Kiss FM, caused a stir on social media when he celebrated the cancellation of a show by the band Ultraje a Rigor, led by Roger Moreira. Abreu called members of the group “fascists” in a post, which sparked outrage from the singer and the band.

The band were supposed to play at the Tokyo Marine Hall on July 13, as a 23rd anniversary attraction for Kiss FM, which also falls on Rock Day, but the event was canceled by the broadcaster.

In a post on his private profile, Abreu celebrated: “Thank God, Kiss thought better of it and decided to cancel the radio’s anniversary show with the scandalous shit of Ultraje a Rigor. An important radio like ours deserves a party of respect and not a group of bankrupt fascists.”

The message was deleted soon after, but set social media ablaze. In light of the repercussions, the radio issued an official note, underlining its commitment to impartiality and respect for the public and underlining that the statements made by its communicators on social networks are of a personal nature.

The note reads: “Publications made by our communicators on their personal pages do not reflect the opinion of Kiss FM and do not necessarily represent the values ​​and principles of the station. We treat with great care any problem that may arise due to isolated messages seriously and therefore we reiterate to listeners and partners that the information validated by Kiss FM is found on the station’s official channels”, reads the text.

Apologies

After the controversy, Abreu received many messages of support on his profile, but also attacks from right-wing listeners who intend to organize a boycott against the radio. This Saturday (8/6), he returned to social media to apologize: “Friends, I would like to clarify that, in a moment of personal excitement, I made a mistake in criticizing a certain band and I felt that, without the slightest intention, I damaged the station I work for. Kiss FM is an impartial channel that respects the public and offers quality content. I apologize to the station, my directors and the public and does not reflect any of the vehicles I work for.

Threat of prosecution

Roger Moreira did not accept the apology: “You will learn responsibility. Of course the coward no longer talks about the band now. You will have to prove what you said, you scoundrel. In court. The trial is underway. You are a fascist,” wrote the musician on social media.
