Amandla Stenberg releases song against racist comments in ‘The Acolyte’

In the lyrics, the Disney star expresses himself in anti-racist sections and against other types of prejudice

Actress Amandla Stenberg released the song “Discourse” in response to racist comments she received since the premiere of “The Acolyte,” the new series in the Star Wars franchise. On Instagram, the artist stated that the song took three days to produce.

“To those who are showering me with intolerable racism: Since it took me 72 hours on my laptop to make this song and video, you have 72 hours to respond. And I expect choreography!”, joked Amandla.

In the lyrics, Amandla speaks out in parts against racism and other types of prejudice, as well as referencing an old interview with Trevor Noah, where she became the subject of criticism for stating that “white people crying was the goal” when referencing to the film “The Hate U Give” (2018), which chronicles the aftermath of a black teenager killed by a police officer.

“I was running from town to town talking about a story / You know the one: The police killing a black boy / My people cried in theaters finding relief / White people cried because they could see us as human beings,” the artist sings.

At another point, Amandla also took advantage of the composition to comment on the fact that the far right had turned the word “I wake up” into something seemingly negative. The artist claims that the term was coined by blacks and that, now, “they [os racistas] They use it to describe everything that threatens them.”
