The singer of hits like ‘After’ and ‘Velha Infância’ is the third woman to receive the honor from the institution
Singer Marisa Monte received, this Monday 24th, the title of honorary doctor for the University of Sao Paulo (USP).
“Receiving this title is proof that art has the power to influence life, to awaken awareness and promote change. It is a recognition not only of my artistic journey, but also of the power of music as a tool for social transformation”, said the artist during the ceremony.
Last Saturday, the 22nd, Marisa performed for free in the university city, in a show that celebrated the 90th anniversary of USP. She sang together with the OSUSP symphony orchestra and Arnaldo Antunes.
The singer is an ambassador for the USP Diversa program, which raises funds and offers scholarships to students in vulnerable socioeconomic situations.
