From the jungle to the world: Tz da Coronel releases new album and aims for an international career

Colonel’s Tz He began his career in rhyme battles in Morro do Limão, a favela in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, in 2017. He gained more attention this year, when he released “Qual é Seu Quero?” in partnership with Ryu, The Runner.

The track reached #3 on YouTube Brazil, #40 on YouTube Global and more than a million plays on Spotify in the first 24 hours of release.

Tz had already reached the ears of Caetano Velosowho quoted him in “Sem Samba Não Dá”, by My coconut (2021). “I didn’t expect it, I really didn’t expect it,” confessed the trap artist, who also revealed that his mother is a fan of the MPB star. “I was happy for myself and my mother… The world goes round.”

Before becoming the Colonel’s Tz, the musician was Theuzinho. “My name is Matheus. There, there at Coronel [rua onde morou]people used to call me Theuzinho, when I started to rhyme in the rhyme battle”, he stated in an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil.

Straight from the Jungle

Tz da Coronel released this Thursday, 27th, his third studio album. Straight from the Jungle he follows Dacomodode (2023) and It’s the Train! (2022). On July 6th, the artist’s birthday, a new track will also be presented to fans.

Since his rise to fame, the musician has experienced a change in reality, which is also portrayed in the new album: “My lifestyle has changed, my way of thinking has changed, the environment has changed, you know? And like, the struggles before were different, they were more for recognition, for survival. Nowadays, the struggle is to maintain yourself and continue evolving.”

Before, I had to get out of the jungle. Nowadays, I managed to get out of the jungle — because I came straight from the jungle to here — and that’s more or less it. The struggles are to keep me going, to keep going and get where I want to go. There’s always a struggle, there’s always more struggle ahead, it never stops.

Tz da Coronel added his deep voice to the American rap Russ Millions in the single “Our Posture”. “I met Russ via Instagram. I saw one of his songs with NLE Choppa“, he described. “I started following him, and he followed me back.”
