Sertanejo remains the most listened to genre by Brazilians, according to the ranking

Lauana Prado Leads the List With a Re-Recording of an ’80s Hit; Chart Shows Most Streamed in H1 2024

Country music remains the most listened to Brazilian genre on streaming platforms, as shown by the ranking of the 50 most listened to songs in the first half of the year. Of the 10 most played artists, 8 come from the countryside. The survey was carried out by Pro-Música, an entity that represents record companies and record producers in Brazil, and covers music consumption on streaming platforms such as Spotify, Youtube, Deezer, Apple Music, Amazon Music AND Napster.

Singer Laurana Pradoone of the biggest names in country music today, leads the list with a medley that includes the re-recording of Written in the starsa hit by Tetê Espíndola in 1985. The song returned to the limelight after going viral with the player Maria Fu in the reality show A Fazenda, in December 2023.

In addition to the version, Madley includes other country hits: take me Home (by César Augusto and Piska, with the voice of Zezé Di Camargo and Luciano) and Wish (by Christian and Ralf). The song is part of the live album Root (2022)in which Lauana presents famous romantic country songs in contemporary arrangements. The work was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2023.

In addition to country music, funk also appears on the podium: Let’s go 4In Mc Davi, Mc Don Juan, Mc Kadu, Mc GH Do 7, Mc GP AND TrappolaudoDand Mc IG, Mc PH, Mc Ryan SP and Mc Lukithey occupied the third and fourth positions respectively.

Sertanejo in evidence

It’s no surprise that country and funk are prominent on similar lists of most-listened-to genres. The country singer was also among the most-played on the radio this year.

Also noteworthy is the presence of women in country music at the top of the most listened to charts. Marília Mendonça, who pioneered the femaleremains among the most listened to even after her death, in 2021, thanks to the repertoire of unreleased songs left by the singer. In 2022 she was the most listened to on Spotify. In 2023 it was the turn of the young Ana Castela, known as “boiadeira”.

Another feature that the ranking reinforces is the exclusive presence of national songs in the list. Brazilian trap, in fact, is gaining importance among the most listened to. Check out the list below:
